case study

OVERVIEW

With more than 5 years of experience providing services of dedicated last mile units, courier and parcel, consolidated cargo, warehouse and distribution, in 2020, a comprehensive transformation began, emerging as Transgo, with a focus on improving the experience of your customers.

CUSTOMER NEED

For the Administrative and Financial Directors of Transgo, it was very clear that for the company to enter the courier and parcel market, they must have operating processes and controls that promote quality and correct performance. Additionally, These processes had to be accompanied by a technological solution that properly improved and controlled said processes; the result would be what they were looking for: flexibility, agility, resilience, adaptability and availability.

THE CHALLENGE

Develop our own courier and parcel network, in order to enter the market, optimizing Transgo's existing resources (processes, human capital, physical resources), to access the use of technological tools and meet current market demands. The entry ticket would be a digital solution providing scalability, speed, reliability of operation, information security and flexibility in integration with other systems.

THE SOLUTION

Our proposal involved two approaches for defining the technology strategy:

  • 1. A functional analysis for the development of the application, based on the detailed knowledge of the current processes, while taking advantage of a first design stage, which would allow the adoption of improvements from the conception of technological tools.
  • 2. The design of a suitable cloud infrastructure landing zone for the deployment of resources, considering the participation of both technology perspectives: development, technological operation and security, as well as operational, management tasks, logistics operation and end users.

THE RESULTS

From a technical point of view, we designed the infrastructure and developed a computer system with a user interface for monitoring and tracking couriers and parcels. We take into account the registration phases of the parcel user: documentation, pricing, dynamic route assignment, collection, transfer, reception and registration in each warehouse, in transit, home delivery and delivery to the end customer.

We built the infrastructure considering at all times the best architecture design practices (well architected framework), establishing the ideal services for optimal management and continuous evolution.

Services such as CloudWatch, incident control panels, alerts and logs, for identifying the health status, metrics and notifications of the platform operation in real time. This has made it possible to maintain close monitoring and to execute immediate corrective and improvement actions.

Data management and replication schemes with services such as Autoscaling have made it possible to transparently manage scalability, in the face of changes in service demand for both computing services and data management.

The forecast of integrations with various business partners, in order to establish business operations and data between multiple participants in a secure and functional way has been possible thanks to the CloudFront & API Gateway services. Through these, we also optimized the operation of computing services through Serverless with the use of Lambda functions and cloud-native non-transactional databases, providing adequate information traceability.

Business communication services were deployed through a combination of computing and messaging services with AWS, so that each one of Transgo's members could generate institutional, adequate and secure communication with all collaborators.

From a commercial point of view, there was an impact on the volume of sales and the development of the services offered:

The massive parcel market, accessed in a technologically automated way through the secure and efficient integration of APIs.

The integration of business partners, clients and intermediaries was dynamic and agile.

Controls and visibility of the complete cycle of the service were possible, thanks to the establishment of adequate metrics to evaluate the level of service. Currently, this can be done daily with a closing metric, which allows daily corrective actions to be applied, having an accurate history that helps decision-making and the development of the appropriate actions, thanks to the compiled history.

Visibility for Transgo's clients in real time, tracking and quoting functionalities in real time have become an important leap. It should be considered that before the existence of the system, the metrics were collected manually; subsequently, accurate data and evolved operation were obtained, increasing package delivery success from 36% to 93%.

Knowing AWS and its capabilities through us, allowed them to identify where they should evolve and the next actions in the system.

Once the service was put into production, it was possible for Transgo to increase its parcel communication network and market competition, being able to connect technologically with its clients and third parties with an agile integration in the same technology language.

Greater controls were obtained over its operational areas and processes, which has allowed to define better actions and solutions.

Visibility of the shipment in real time, both for the origin customer and for the destination customer.

Just one year after implementing the system and the technological transformation, the investment has proven to have a marginal cost. It has also allowed them to become one of the largest suppliers to a large chain of department stores nationwide.

ADDED VALUE

We accompanied TransGo in the understanding of logistics processes, to obtain the knowledge that would allow them to provide greater value to the business, through the design and adaptation of the best technological definitions.

We adopt the role of technological representative of TransGo, in order to define the best technological tools within the organization and for its clients.

My expectation was that there would be pre-approved market acceptance just by using AWS services, because of all that the brand itself endorses. For me it was a letter of introduction to security. The key was designing the right infrastructure with the services and configuration in order to make a system agile and available.

We definitely knew that IT Trade was a growing company and had the knowledge to develop the solution, our requirements have grown and evolved from what was originally established and IT Trade has also grown and adapted to new requests quickly.
